At a July 9 briefing China said the US should immediately end its economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba, after a July 7 UN General Assembly vote of 136-30-9 to continue debate on terminating the blockade. China accused recent US measures of escalation that have exacerbated an energy crisis, said the blockade violates the UN Charter and infringes Cuba’s right to survival and development, and called on Washington to stop coercion and military threats. China said it will join the international community in defending Cuba’s sovereignty and opposing external interference.

Former US ambassador to Tunisia Joey Hood said US-Iran diplomatic efforts have run their course and that Iran’s attacks on commercial shipping show a discernible pattern. He said at least two strikes targeted Qatari vessels or ships carrying Qatari oil and LNG, and that many attacks appear aimed at Gulf states rather than the United States. Hood added US bases in the Gulf are mainly for training and exercises with few exposed personnel or equipment, and that the strikes are a deliberate signal to Gulf countries, especially mediators, to align with Tehran.
