At a July 9 briefing China said the US should immediately end its economic,
commercial and financial embargo on Cuba, after a July 7 UN General Assembly
vote of 136-30-9 to continue debate on terminating the blockade. China accused
recent US measures of escalation that have exacerbated an energy crisis, said
the blockade violates the UN Charter and infringes Cuba’s right to survival and
development, and called on Washington to stop coercion and military threats.
China said it will join the international community in defending Cuba’s
sovereignty and opposing external interference.
