European Dynamic cited EU officials on July 2 saying European Commission
President von der Leyen plans to unveil a bloc-wide ban on minors’ use of social
media in her annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament on
Sept. 16. An advisory group on minors’ online safety is due to submit a report
by July 13 to inform the Commission. Member states have proposed different
implementation options — a full ban below a specified age or parental-consent
requirements — and the plan would pave the way for EU legislation or other
measures to restrict minors’ access to social platforms.
