Initial jobless claims fell to 215,000 in the week ended June 27, below market
expectations of 220,000 and down from 216,000 the prior week. Continuing claims
for the week ended June 20 were 1.814 million. The Labor Department’s employment
report showed payrolls rose 57,000 in June. Recent low claimant figures indicate
firms have not been implementing large-scale layoffs.
