UK finance minister Reeves told the House of Commons she will publish the
long-delayed defense investment plan before the NATO summit in Turkey on July
7-8. Reeves said she met Monday with new Defense Secretary Jarvis and Chief of
the Defense Staff Richard Naiton to discuss a plan that will inject additional
funding into the armed forces and rejected claims it fails to deliver sufficient
spending growth. The plan, originally scheduled for autumn, was delayed and drew
criticism after the former defense secretary resigned earlier this month, saying
the Treasury was unwilling to commit the resources needed amid rising threats.
