Berlin police on the 24th launched a pilot to use AI-equipped surveillance
cameras in a high-crime district, with installation and commissioning in the
Kottbusser Tor area scheduled over the next four weeks before full operation.
Authorities plan to roll the system out to other high-crime neighborhoods.
Police said the cameras use "spatial AI" to analyse people’s movements to
identify potential criminal or violent behaviour; on-screen displays remain
dormant until the AI detects violence or vandalism, at which point the display
activates and officers receive push notifications to decide on intervention.
