Israel’s Channel 12 reports US negotiators during indirect talks in New York
around the UN General Assembly rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of
Hormuz, telling Tehran it does not control the waterway and questioning Iran’s
standing to make the proposal. Channel 12 said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared
Kushner were in one room while Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi was in
another, with messages shuttled by Qatari intermediaries. More indirect talks
may occur before the UNGA ends, but mediators are awaiting President Trump’s
decision on whether to continue the process or pursue other options.
