China's Mid-Autumn and National Day rail holiday started Sept. 23 and runs through Oct. 8 (16 days). China State Railway Group expects to carry about 284 mln passenger trips during the period, plans roughly 13,000 passenger trains per day on average and anticipates a peak on Oct. 1. The group's ticketing platform 12306 had sold 96.21 mln holiday tickets as of 0800 Beijing time.

At a Sept. 23 briefing the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said desire for peace, development, exchange and cooperation is the mainstream sentiment in Taiwan. The office said the mainland will continue to uphold a cross‑strait kinship approach, roll out further Taiwan‑benefit policies, strengthen institutional support for cross‑strait integration, actively promote people‑to‑people exchanges and sector cooperation, and welcome Taiwanese participation to share opportunities from Chinese‑style modernization.
