Middle East Eye reports the US is working with Iraq and Syria to rehabilitate an
about 800 km pipeline from Kirkuk to the Mediterranean port of Baniyas to enable
Iraqi crude exports that bypass the Strait of Hormuz. An agreement is expected
to be announced during Iraqi PM Ali al‑Zaidi’s planned White House meeting with
Trump next week. The pipeline has been out of service for decades and is
severely damaged; a senior official said it will likely require full
reconstruction, a project expected to take two to three years. A group of US
companies has been recruited to participate.
