Democratic Republic of Congo tax authority DGI seized the office of
Glencore-owned Kamoto Copper Company in Kolwezi on Thursday in a dispute over
alleged unpaid state funds, sources said. The DGI action did not affect
production at nearby mines and processing plants, the sources added. Two sources
said the tax authority alleges the company owes tens of billions of dollars and
that the Swiss tax authority intervened after failing to reach a settlement with
Glencore. A Glencore spokesperson denied the DGI’s claims and said the company
is engaging with authorities.
