SemiAnalysis founder Dylan Patel said on a podcast that AI infrastructure faces
a multi-year structural shortage in storage, with 2–3x upside potential. He said
agents and reinforcement learning have raised CPU demand but vendor pricing
appears elevated and recent CPU growth largely reflects historical catch-up;
CPUs still represent far less absolute value in AI servers than GPUs. Patel said
large-scale deployment of co-packaged optics (CPO) has been delayed to late‑2028
into 2029, extending the demand window for copper-cable connectors.
