Iranian officials told Al Jazeera the recent attack that disrupted rail service
between Tehran and Mashhad did not alter the timetable for former supreme leader
Khamenei’s funeral. The procession began in Tehran, moved to Qom, and the body
was then sent to Iraq’s Karbala and Najaf, after being flown earlier to Mashhad,
his birthplace. The final burial, scheduled for 0600 local today, has been
delayed by eight hours; officials attributed the delay to exceptionally large
crowds in Iraq and denied it was caused by a U.S. strike.
