Hong Kong stocks rose through the morning session. Hang Seng Index gained 2.38% to 24,057.24; Hang Seng TECH Index climbed 4.34% to 4,702.77 by midday. Chip, AI/compute and broader tech names led; oil & gas also firmer while pork producers and solid-state battery stocks lagged. Notable movers: Zhipu (02513.HK) +18%, Shandong Molong (00568.HK) +14.6%, Kingsoft Cloud (03896.HK) ~+12%, Huahong Hongli (01347.HK) and Alibaba (09988.HK) >+8%, SMIC (00981.HK) and SenseTime (00020.HK) >+7%, Kuaishou (01024.HK) +6.8%. Decliners included Longpan Technology (02465.HK) -8.7%, Tongrentang Elderly Care (02667.HK) -6%, Ganfeng Lithium (01772.HK) and UBTECH (09880.HK) -4.2%. Five new listings showed mixed debut performance: Baogai New Materials (08090.HK) +0.64%, MOMENTA-W (06880.HK) +3.45%, Econtrol Zhijia (07687.HK) +5.04%, Basic Semiconductor (09971.HK) +13%, Ruiwei Technology (07656.HK) -4.8%.

Prime Minister Carney said nine countries have committed to a Canada-led global defence bank, naming Canada, Albania, Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine. Apart from Canada, other G7 members have not joined, which could constrain the bank's initial capital base. Canada’s foreign minister said the institution remains open to additional members. A think tank noted launch conditions have been met but founders had hoped for participation from larger European powers. The bank is slated to begin operations in 2027 and aims to mobilise defence-industrial investment to strengthen allies’ collective security capacity.
