Algeria held parliamentary voting on July 2; 24.7 mln registered voters were
eligible. 9,854 candidates contested 407 seats in the People's National
Assembly; women accounted for 21% of candidates and 54% were under 40. Algeria's
parliament comprises the People's National Assembly (lower house) and the
Council of the Nation (upper house); lower‑house deputies are elected by
universal suffrage for five‑year terms.
