Sources say several major European governments now accept that vessels
transiting the Strait of Hormuz will likely have to pay fees to Iran and Oman.
Two people familiar with internal discussions said some form of service charge
has become inevitable in the aftermath of a US-Israel-Iran war. They added some
Gulf Arab officials privately share the view, though it may not reflect official
government positions. It is unclear what type or level of fees states would
accept. The US and Gulf Arab governments continue to oppose any fees imposed by
Iran or Oman on passage through the strait.
