With gasoline around $4/gal, fuel‑efficient hybrids have become among the most
sought-after models at U.S. dealerships. Cox Automotive estimates 1H hybrid
sales rose more than 9% while overall U.S. light‑vehicle sales fell about 3%;
hybrid deliveries are up over 80% since 2023 and hybrids’ market share reached a
record 14% in Q1. Honda and Toyota occupy seven of this year’s top‑10
best‑selling hybrid models; U.S. automakers have only Ford’s Maverick pickup in
the top ten. Given limited hybrid lineups, Detroit automakers risk ceding
near‑term volume and share in the strengthening hybrid market.
