Midea says demand for its PortaSplit portable-split air conditioners in Europe
has outstripped supply amid recent heatwaves. With several ocean containers
already en route, the company expects more than 100 containers to arrive in
early July to replenish European inventories and address the peak in cooling
demand. Midea’s Europe home AC R&D head Dong Yunjun noted Western European
markets — including Germany, France and the UK — have long faced barriers to
broader cooling adoption (installation limits, high installation costs, labour
shortages, outdoor-unit noise and high rental housing rates), and repeated
heatwaves are shifting consumers from short-term coping to seeking permanent
cooling solutions.
