The final large module for Haiyang nuclear Phase II was hoisted into place,
marking the project’s shift into installation and commissioning. State Power
Investment Corp said the lift was for Haiyang unit 4’s nuclear island; its
passive containment cooling water tank holds over 3,000 tonnes and can
gravity-feed water to cool the reactor building without AC power in extreme
scenarios, working with other passive safety systems. SPIC said that at full
commercial output Haiyang will be the world’s largest passive PWR nuclear
complex.
