Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said the debut of the Jalapeño AI chip, co-developed with
OpenAI, marks a shift toward AI labs building their own hardware and
infrastructure. He said the move validates Broadcom’s business model and
predicted frontier LLM developers will ultimately design and build their own
chips and compute because they can do it better. He added OpenAI’s full‑stack
strategy produced a chip that is "excellent" for its intended use.
