Rio Tinto (RIO.N), BHP (BHP.N) and Caterpillar (CAT.N) have started a battery-electric haul truck trial in the Pilbara and report "significant progress". Early testing has logged more than 100 hours of operation and over 200 test cycles; the next phase will evaluate dynamic charging technology. The firms said dynamic charging could be a key lever to improve operational efficiency. BHP reiterated its target to cut operational GHG emissions by at least 30% by fiscal 2030 versus fiscal 2020.
