SANA reported Syrian President Ahmed Shala said Syria can play a constructive
role in resolving Lebanon’s crisis by supporting Lebanon and helping establish
communication channels among Lebanese political factions, including Hezbollah.
He said earlier comments about Syria’s possible role were misinterpreted and
sparked concerns of potential military intervention. Shala said Syria seeks
economic—not military—corridors with Lebanon, citing historical trade links
between Damascus and Beirut and between Homs and Tripoli. He added talks with
the US have focused on ending the conflict and addressing its consequences for
Lebanon and Syria.
