The U.S. is seeking to stop Iran from using empty tankers as floating oil storage while enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports, according to a U.S. official. U.S. Central Command said more than 70 tankers carrying capacity for over 166 million barrels of oil, valued at more than $13 billion, are being prevented from entering or leaving Iranian ports. Centcom said the U.S. this week struck and disabled three empty Iranian-flagged tankers attempting to load oil. TankerTrackers identified two vessels hit overnight as Sea Star III and Sevda, saying they had “infiltrated the blockade perimeter” in recent days.
