gesture during sensitive negotiations, ending earlier uncertainty over a
reported “gift” from Tehran. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Trump said the
initial offer was eight tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, later increased
to 10 following what he described as an apology from Iranian counterparts. U.S.
officials had previously declined to detail the matter, citing the sensitivity
of ongoing peace discussions.
