Oil-importing economies such as India, South Korea, and Taiwan led the selloff as surging crude prices raised inflation and growth concerns. The outflows have already exceeded pandemic-era and Ukraine-war-related selloffs, with investors rotating into markets less exposed to energy shocks. Analysts from Morgan Stanley noted that Asia’s vulnerability to energy costs, combined with dollar strength and profit-taking in chip stocks, has intensified equity underperformance versus the US.
