Buoyed by midterm gains and citing voter concern over high living costs and
inflation, several Democratic lawmakers said they will push to repeal what they
called unreasonable Trump-era tariffs. Massachusetts Representative Richard Neal
said he is committed to reversing Trump administration tariffs and
behind-the-scenes trade deals. Oregon Senator Ron Wyden said he will pursue
legislation, once he becomes Senate Finance Committee chair in January,
targeting tariffs tied to a potential second Trump term. New York Representative
Hakeem Jeffries, expected to be House speaker next year, said tariffs and the
prospect of war with Iran are among GOP policies that have raised living costs
and pledged to act to lower them.
