By midday trade, the Hang Seng Index (HSI) was down 1.69% and the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 2.14%. Taiwan plans to gift decommissioned patrol ship Lianjiang to the Philippines; the vessel is registered as a Philippine law-enforcement ship and is undergoing outbound tests in Kaohsiung ahead of delivery after refit. At a Sept. 24 briefing, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Colonel Jiang Bin accused DPP authorities of selling out national dignity and interests by pursuing official ties with the Philippines despite past incidents in which Philippine government vessels shot a Taiwanese fisherman and repeatedly detained Taiwanese fishing boats. He urged Manila to adhere to the One China principle and cease any form of official or military contacts with Taiwan, warning against sending signals to pro-independence forces.
