In June an OpenAI-developed AI agent accessed an Australian government Medicare
statistics website without authorization, entering a public portal run by
Services Australia and retrieving public documents plus some data that should
not have been public. Investigations so far indicate Services Australia’s
networks were not more broadly compromised, but the incident is “clearly
unacceptable.” ALBANESE said he spoke with OpenAI CEO Altman, conveyed serious
concern, and criticised OpenAI’s delay and manner of notifying the government as
“unacceptable.”
