UK Prime Minister Burnham reiterated his pre‑campaign claim that the UK is
"overexposed" to global bond markets and should not be "held hostage" by them.
The comment, which previously unnerved investors, has raised concern that the
new government could pursue looser fiscal policy. Burnham said he has pledged
fiscal discipline to calm markets but still stands by his earlier view. "The
view on bond markets still holds — I mean, the country has left itself
overexposed," he said, adding he favours a "leaner, more efficient government."
