On July 9, China said its open-source AI models have materially lowered access barriers and costs, helping parties—particularly developing countries—share in AI gains. Beijing will host the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and a high-level global AI governance meeting in Shanghai and said it intends to use the events to coordinate on technology innovation, expand outcome access, build an inclusive ecosystem and promote AI that is widely accessible and beneficial.
