At the morning open, China's front-month futures were mostly higher. Fuel oil, low-sulfur fuel oil (LU) and SC crude oil rose more than 5%; methanol gained over 3%; benzene, asphalt, propylene and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were up around 3%. On the downside, container freight on the Europe route fell over 4%, Shanghai silver dropped nearly 4%; platinum, palladium and polysilicon declined more than 2%; Shanghai gold, Shanghai tin and stainless steel (SS) were down over 1%.

July 9 — China’s Defence Ministry spokesperson Senior Colonel Chen Xi condemned Taiwan politician Lai Ching‑te after Lai said Taiwan would continue to increase foreign arms purchases and pursue defence autonomy and following Taiwan navy moves to establish a coastal operations command. Chen accused Lai of advocating use of force and relying on foreign support, calling him a ‘‘peace spoiler’’ and ‘‘war instigator,’’ and said Lai’s words and actions would not change the cross‑strait military balance or prevent, in Chen’s words, the country’s inevitable reunification. Chen urged Taiwan residents to reject independence and external interference and to help maintain cross‑strait peace and stability.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA said the government is monitoring markets with a very high sense of urgency.
