A US government official said on Tuesday that Iran has not received any of about
$6 billion in frozen US assets that Washington pledged to unlock under a
memorandum of understanding aimed at bringing Tehran back to talks in Qatar. The
official said no funds have been unfrozen and none will be released unless Iran
meets the specific benchmarks in the MOU. While Iran seeks a lump-sum payment,
the US plans small, phased direct payments to vendors as Tehran advances key
negotiation areas.
