China and the EU held the first China‑EU Trade and Investment Consultations in Brussels on June 29, 2026. MOFCOM minister Wang Wentao and European Commission commissioner Maroš Šefčovič authorized officials to continue work across four streams — trade and investment balance, export controls, intellectual property and WTO reform — and agreed to reconvene at ministerial level in autumn 2026. Both sides said expanded market access would help rebalance trade; they exchanged market‑access issue lists, discussed potential tariff and non‑tariff measures, and agreed to continue targeted consultations under the trade and investment balance stream. They flagged constructive outcomes in export‑control talks on rare earths and other critical raw materials and minerals, agreed to deepen information exchanges on regulatory frameworks and licensing policies, and to pursue facilitation measures to support global supply‑chain stability.
