China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) said at its June 25 regular
press briefing that, with the country in the main flood season, it has mobilised
to prevent large fluctuations in water quality. The MEE will hold prompt
analysis meetings on abnormal water-quality swings, provide point-to-point
guidance to local authorities to identify causes and speed remediation, and push
basin-wide coordination — including upstream-downstream and left-right bank
joint risk assessments and coordinated countermeasures — to prevent pollution
being shifted downstream or between banks. The ministry said it will enforce
closed-loop management covering problem assignment, rectification and follow-up.
