The Wall Street Journal on the 23rd reported Iranian diplomats say they have
been studying The Art of the Deal—which advocates extreme, unpredictable demands
to create anxiety and force concessions—to understand Trump's negotiating style.
Iranian negotiators told intermediaries they consulted a team of psychologists
to help anticipate Trump's likely public reactions; a person familiar with
Iran's talks in Switzerland said there were no psychologists on the team and
Tehran prefers not to psychoanalyze Trump's motives. Political analysts and
mediators say Trump's high-profile, hardline statements have so far not produced
additional concessions. Mohammad Amersi of the Wilson Center said Trump is
deploying those tactics to test opponents' resolve, but Iranians are aware of
his approach.
