Microsoft said on Tuesday its first data center in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin — the Fairwater campus — is complete and fully operational. Equipment went online and commissioning finished in April; construction was announced in May 2024. Nearly 10,000 construction workers participated over the past two years and the project finished ahead of schedule. The site currently has about 550 full‑time employees supporting operations; Microsoft and its contractors are actively recruiting and expect headcount to rise. Microsoft said the Fairwater campus will provide compute capacity for next‑generation AI and represents a key investment milestone in southeastern Wisconsin.
