The Observer reports Prime Minister Starmer is preparing a timetable to step down and could announce his resignation as early as next Monday. The paper says the incoming MP from a Greater Manchester by-election will be sworn in next Monday and that backers claim the newcomer has secured support from more than 201 Labour MPs to trigger a leadership challenge if Starmer does not resign—exceeding half of the parliamentary Labour party and which, they argue, would leave Starmer unable to demonstrate confidence in the House of Commons.
