The Resolution Foundation, a think tank, calculated that the effective tax rate for self-employed individuals earning the same as the median UK employee would be 17% in the 2025-26 fiscal year, the second-lowest level in 50 years. By comparison, the effective tax rate for employees earning the same amount would be 27%.
