Nov. 6 — MOFCOM and Austria’s Federal Ministry for Economy, Energy and Tourism co‑hosted the inaugural China‑Austria Entrepreneurs Committee meeting in Beijing. Ministers Wang Wentao and Hartmannsdorfer attended; more than 100 political and business delegates were present. The committee was established to deepen bilateral economic ties, promote alignment between China’s 15th Five‑Year Plan and Austria’s Industrial Strategy 2035, and drive sector‑focused, pragmatic cooperation. China urged Austria to provide a fair, open, non-discriminatory environment for Chinese investment. Delegates expressed confidence in trade and investment prospects and said they will use the committee mechanism to advance China‑Austria and China‑EU economic engagement.

BMO Capital Markets chief economist Douglas Porter said in a weekend report that Canada’s federal budget contains larger-than-expected fiscal stimulus, prompting BMO to raise its 2027 GDP forecast to 2.0% from 1.8%. He noted the Bank of Canada has raised rates to counter higher inflation expectations and may tighten further, calling the fiscal and monetary directions “pulling in opposite directions.” Porter added weak employment, falling oil prices and a tech sell-off could prompt BoC policymakers to reassess whether a further hike in December is necessary.
