India's largest refiner Indian Oil Corp (IOC) bought 1.0 mln barrels of Iraqi crude for October loading via a tender from Iraq's state marketer SOMO at FOB, about $23-28 per barrel below the Dubai benchmark, two trade sources said. IOC is also seeking to buy up to 2.0 mln barrels of Basrah Medium and Basrah Heavy for Oct. 21-31 loading, priced against the October Dubai benchmark; that tender closes late on Friday, the sources added.

According to Iran's Mehr News Agency, damage to some of Iran's natural gas infrastructure during the war has further exacerbated the existing imbalance between natural gas supply and demand. With the cold season approaching, repairing damaged production capacity and strengthening energy consumption management have become two key priorities in addressing the potential crisis. Iranian Vice President and head of the Energy Optimization and Strategic Management Organization, Esmail Saghab Isfahani, previously stated that Iran's natural gas supply shortfall was approximately 45 billion cubic meters before the war, but this has widened to approximately 100 billion cubic meters after the infrastructure damage. Energy security does not depend solely on total production. If a country's production capacity is sufficient but largely concentrated in a few key nodes, then damage to a single facility can affect the entire energy network. Therefore, post-war reconstruction cannot focus solely on restoring lost production capacity. For the upcoming winter, the fastest way to add critical supply capacity may not come from new gas fields, but rather from "hidden capacity" released by reducing energy consumption and unnecessary spending.
