On Sept. 24 China Coast Guard spokesman Jiang Lue said the Philippines breached
trust and ignore Chinese warnings by sending a resupply vessel to the illegally
grounded Ren'ai Reef. The Coast Guard said it conducted on-site monitoring and
radio warnings against the Philippine resupply vessel. It accused Manila of
taking provocative action during a Chinese holiday and of hyping the incident,
saying this seriously violated the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the
South China Sea and undermined regional peace and stability. China warned the
Philippines to cease provocations and said the Coast Guard will lawfully carry
out rights-protection enforcement in the Nansha (Spratly) Islands and adjacent
waters, including Ren'ai Reef, to resolutely safeguard national territorial
sovereignty and maritime rights.
