According to The Information, Chris Malone, former head of data centers at OpenAI, has joined Nvidia as Vice President of the Nvidia DSX Platform, where he will be responsible for helping customers design and build AI data centers according to Nvidia standards. Malone left OpenAI in August of this year, having previously worked at Meta and Google on data center infrastructure, before joining OpenAI in early 2025. His departure comes amid a wave of executive departures at OpenAI, which currently plans to go public in 2027. The Nvidia DSX platform primarily focuses on AI data center construction, providing design and deployment support to customers. Previously, Nvidia agreed to provide $105 billion in credit support for OpenAI-backed 10-gigawatt data center projects in Ohio, developed by SB Energy, where OpenAI will lease facilities and deploy hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Nvidia chips. This personnel change highlights the escalating competition among AI companies surrounding data center and computing infrastructure.
