At a routine defense ministry briefing, spokesman Col. Jiang Bin responded to a
recent confirmation by the U.S. Secretary of the Air Force that the United
States possesses in‑orbit "space control weapons" — the first official U.S.
acknowledgment of offensive space capability. Jiang said China remains committed
to peaceful use of space and to play a constructive role in space security,
and warned that U.S. moves to weaponize and battlefieldize space will accelerate
a global space arms race, turn space into a new major‑power battleground and
ultimately damage shared human interests.
