Transport & Environment, citing European Commission data, says diesel prices
have risen about 40% year-to-date in Europe — a 50‑litre tank now costs roughly
€30 more per fill. Gasoline is up roughly 28%. T&E estimates diesel costs across
Europe has increased by about €203m a day since the outbreak of the conflict;
this estimate excludes the impact of fuel tax cuts, which would need to be
offset by other tax increases or additional borrowing. Diesel represents over
40% of oil consumption in European economies — about double the US share —
leaving Europe more exposed to diesel price moves.
