Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told the Wall Street Journal he has
asked Trump for a winter military aid package including Patriot air‑defense
systems and other technologies, and expects the U.S. to push for an agreement to
halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Zelenskiy said energy is a priority for
Trump and that he believes Trump will try to negotiate an energy ceasefire, but
added Putin is unlikely to respond without increased sanctions or other new
pressures; domestic elections have reduced pressure on Moscow to alter military
actions even if battlefield gains remain limited. Zelenskiy will address the UN
General Assembly on Wednesday — his fourth in-person speech since the 2022
conflict began.
