On the 22nd (local time), Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prévot announced Belgium and Rwanda have agreed to restore diplomatic relations and signed a joint statement with Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe. The statement says the two countries will reopen embassies; Rwanda had severed ties on March 17, 2025 over disputes related to the eastern DRC conflict, after which Belgium expelled Rwandan diplomats and terminated bilateral government cooperation agreements.
