Fitch's BMI says South Korea's downstream oil and gas sector could remain stable in 2026 despite pressure from elevated freight costs and geopolitical risk. Seoul is shifting to a broader energy-security strategy to reduce reliance on Middle East crude, targeting the Middle East's share of crude imports to fall from 69.1% in 2024 to 60% or below. BMI adds recent import data show more flexible sourcing: January–May Middle East share was 62.8%, while in May the Americas, including the US, accounted for 26.6% of crude imports.

Iran's foreign ministry said Foreign Minister Araghchi met France's foreign ministry minister Barro in New York on Tuesday during the UN General Assembly. Araghchi criticized what he called France's interventionist stance toward Iran, demanded the French embassy respects Iranian domestic law, and said France's position on regional developments — especially over potential US and Israeli military action against Iran — was unacceptable. He accused France of double standards on human rights, alleging Paris has been silent on US and Israeli actions he described as crimes against humanity that have killed Iranian women and children and has cooperated in enforcing illegal US sanctions. He said Iran is willing to build relations with all countries, including France, on the basis of mutual respect and common interests but will take a firm stance to protect its interests and rights.
