[Electric Vehicle Adoption in the US Creates a "Dual-Fuel Market": Geographical Locations Reshaping Transportation Costs] As electric vehicle usage steadily increases, a "dual-fuel market" is emerging in the United States: while some owners' travel costs remain determined by the global oil market, others increasingly depend on local electricity prices. Energy information platform Orennia recently converted the cost of charging electric vehicles in each US state into an equivalent price per gallon. Data shows that the national average charging cost is approximately $1.56 per gallon, while data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) shows that the current cost of refueling a gasoline car is approximately $4.43. Hawaii has the highest charging cost, averaging about $3.45 per gallon. Wyoming has the lowest charging cost, averaging about $1.14 per gallon. In the gasoline car market, California has the highest average price at about $6.08 per gallon, while Indiana has the lowest at about $3.92 per gallon. Unlike the gasoline market, electricity prices do not exhibit a clear national pattern and are more influenced by regional utility systems. Hawaii's independent power grid results in higher electricity generation costs compared to the continental United States. In Louisiana, Idaho, and parts of the Plains states, charging costs are close to or even less than $1.10 per gallon.
