US Commerce Secretary Lutnick urges Samsung and SK Hynix to expand memory-chip production in the United States to help ease global shortages of AI-critical components. He confirmed he is in talks with the two Korean manufacturers but did not disclose details. Lutnick acknowledged Micron CEO Mehrotra may object to rivals expanding in the US, but said strengthening the US chip supply chain requires bringing Samsung and SK Hynix to build fabs onshore; he noted Micron currently leads and competitors will likely follow.
