Thailand and Malaysia said they have resolved a seafood trade dispute and signed
memoranda of understanding expected to take effect this week, clearing the way
to restore bilateral fishery trade after several weeks of disruption. Thailand’s
PM Anutin and Malaysia’s PM Anwar said their agriculture ministries reached a
market-access agreement for fishery products, though neither specified when
trade would fully normalize. Malaysia’s agriculture ministry said the deal is
part of a broader agricultural cooperation MOU covering trade facilitation,
biosafety and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures. Anutin said both sides
are confident of reaching a $30 billion bilateral trade target and that a joint
trade committee will meet to set more ambitious goals.
