July 9 — Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, at a regular briefing,
responded to NATO summit security concerns about China’s technology, military
activities and ties with Russia. Mao said NATO is a regional defensive alliance
with defined duties and geographic limits and should not repeatedly invoke
China. She said China is a force for peace, has never threatened any country and
will not pose a challenge to Euro‑Atlantic security, and urge NATO to abandon
Cold War thinking, correct its perception of China and stop inflating a China
threat.
